OUTSIDE THE BOX

For a while I wanted to be able to do what you can do,
Stuff all of my problems and feelings in a little box,
And bury it away so that no one will see,
But love is meant to be shared and life is meant to be lived,
I felt ashamed to wear my heart on my sleeve,
I didn’t want you to see I was weak,
I tried. My box was so full it overflowed,
My emotions and love for you kept spilling out,
I can’t keep how I feel a secret, I just can’t,
Love is meant to be shared and life is meant to be lived,
Instead of love and feelings of affection in my box,
I stuffed all the bad things in my heart that need to disappear,
Regret, sorrow, shame, fear, anger, defeat and resentment,
Forced them all to fit inside my tiny little box,
But I didn’t bury it, I tied it to the end of a balloon, with some string,
I let it go, freeing me, erasing my limitations,
Because love is meant to be shared and life is meant to be lived.
